Writing an Anschreiben while recognition is still pending
Many employers in Germany will still consider you if recognition is underway — provided you explain the status without sounding vague. The Anschreiben is the place to do that in two or three precise sentences, not a long apology.
State the occupation you are targeting in German terms, name the recognition procedure you have opened (or will open), and give a realistic milestone: documents submitted, waiting for equivalence assessment, or partial recognition with an adaptation measure still ahead. Avoid promising a date you cannot control.
Lead with relevant experience and language ability. Recognition status belongs in a short clarifying paragraph, usually after you have shown why your day-to-day work matches the vacancy. Attach what the employer asked for; do not overload the first email with every certificate you own.
If the role is regulated and legal practice requires full recognition, say so honestly and ask whether the employer supports adaptation periods or supervised practice. That question filters dead ends early and signals that you understand German occupational rules.
In application-planning consultations we rewrite draft letters line by line, replacing vague phrases like “international experience” with concrete duties, tools, and settings that German hiring managers recognise.
